What is so unusual about me is that I am a third generation chiropractor, and the sixth in my family! This is extremely rare because when my grandfather, Jacob Cappel, practiced in 1920, the profession was so new (only 25 years old!), there were only a handful of chiropractors around. So you can see that my family members were actually pioneers in the field, and you could say that, after all, chiropractic runs through my veins! My siblings and I have had the advantage of enjoying the health benefits of chiropractic care since we were babies, and I offer the same health advantage to you and your children.
What's also unusual about me is my background as a registered nurse (critical care specialist) in Glen Cove Hospital for thirteen years before becoming a chiropractor. Perhaps I took care of you or a loved one then ...?
I run a busy and successful multi-doctor family chiropractic practice in Glen Cove since 1991, serving people of all ages ('from the womb to the tomb!) and helping those with a wide variety of ailments and conditions. Besides serving whole families, our state-of-the-art office is superbly equipped and experienced to treat difficult cases and people who have been injured in car or work accidents. Most insurances and medicare cover chiropractic, and we have special plans for non-insured people. We are open six days a week, with convenient evening hours.
I graduated in 1990 from the internationally renowned New York Chiropractic College (Brookville campus) where I was also a teaching assistant in clinical practices. I received my Doctor of Chiropractic with honors after four years of intensive study, internship and externship. After becoming a doctor, I studied post-graduate courses for another three years, earning a Diplomate in Chiropractic Sciences and Board Certification in 1995. I am one of twenty two chiropractors in New York State to hold that title (DACS).
My name is listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. As a student, I also received Chiropractic Technique and Outstanding Service awards. I am a member of the New York Chiropractic Council, International Chiropractors Association and the Council on Applied Chiropractic Sciences to stay up-to-date on Chiropractic Sciences. I am also a Rotarian (past officer).
I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Regents College and an Associate degree in Nursing from Pace University. I serve as a mentor to interns in the New York Chiropractic College externship program since its inception in 1996. In September 1999, I went with 40 chiropractors to Peru on a mission trip, adjusting approximately 10,000 Peruvians.
